Strong dislike.

Hate is a strong word.  But I’m near using it.  Let’s face it.  When you write an entire blog post, like that one that isn’t posted here right now because of what I am about to say, and it is not formatted properly (even though the Wordpress WYSIWYG editor shows it correctly), and then you go and edit each and every line putting the appropriate <p> tags in the correct places to fix the problem, and then Wordpress decides that it’s going to duplicate every paragraph you’ve written, strip the hyperlinks out of your post, and then re-format everything however it wants, you don’t really feel like typing it all again.  And you want to say hate.  But something inside of you tells you that you may need Wordpress one day, and you don’t want to offend it.  The moral of the story:  I had something useful to say and I’m too frustrated to post it again because Wordpress messed it up.  Bad.  I’ll try again tonight.  Oh, and just a word of advice - this is probably a problem linked to Safari.  Use Firefox!

I’m back; Content is king

I decided to remove (or move, actually) the portfolio page that you have seen in this very spot over the last month. There are a few reasons for this decision, but the most important one is that I’d much rather you be bored by my meaningless rants than by coming to my page over, and over, and over again (thanks, 3 visitors) to see the same content repeatedly. New content = a good marketing a strategy. I’m here to market myself, and therefore I need to be updating my site as much as possible.

I make this sound a lot more serious than it actually is. It isn’t at all.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about blogging lately and what a good blog entails. The majority of people write informally to their friends and family on their blogs. This is the purpose for which I created this blog, with a little inspiration from a couple of friends. In addition to giving the world personal updates, I would like provide everyone who visits with something of value. I was on to something when I started publishing New Music Monday, which I vow to start again next week.

There’s a tough balance to manage here: knowing that my audience is primarily friends and family, and wanting to provide content that lets me reach an audience beyond that. I’m not sure what I mean right now, but I know this much: things will change. I apologize in advance if at times I try to sound “too professional” or if I start using web designer lingo that is greek to most of you. However, I want my web presence to be bigger than it currently is. I’m going to need more types of content, more valuable content, and most importantly, more frequently updated content.

Amidst all of this new content that I hope to publish, maybe I can find time to redesign this site. But don’t count on it.

Let this post be a disclaimer for when things get weird around here. I don’t know where I’m going, but I sure hope somebody out there cares!
